In the interdisciplinary EnHANTs project we are designing and developing Energy Harvesting Active Networked Tags (EnHANTs). Small, flexible, and energetically self-reliant, EnHANTs will be attached to objects that are traditionally not networked, such as books, furniture, toys, produce, and clothing. EnHANTs will enable the Internet of Things by providing the infrastructure for various novel tracking applications, such as locating misplaced items, continuous monitoring of objects (eg, items in a store and boxes in transit), and determining locations of disaster survivors. This video showcased a demonstration of the EnHANT prototypes that are integrated with novel custom-developed organic solar cells and with novel custom Ultra-Wideband (UWB) transceivers, and demonstrated various network adaptations to environmental energy conditions. This video is based on a system demonstration that was presented at the 2011 ACM SenSys, and that received the 2011 ACM SenSys Best Student Demo Award.
